A group known as Justice for Trayvon Martin-Los Angeles held a march and rally on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in Beverly Hills.

The event began at La Cienega Park and the protesters marched toward Wilshire Boulevard and Beverly.

Trayvon Martin rally in Long Beach scheduled for Friday

LONG BEACH – In the aftermath of Saturday’s acquittal of George Zimmerman, local activists are planning a “peace” rally at noon Friday in front of Long Beach Superior Court.

Protesters have rallied across the country since a jury of six women acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the Feb. 26, 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, during a fight in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, claimed he shot the 17-year-old Martin in self defense after Martin attacked and pummelled him.

Friday’s rally is organized by P.E.A.C.E. — Protecting Everyone America Created Equality.

The group said in a news release that it wants to promote unity, justice and equality.

Free Arizona iced teas and Skittles will be distributed to early arrivers, but supplies are limited, according to the news release.

Martin was carrying the candy and drink when he was shot and killed.

Friday’s rally will be another in a line of local protests.

The African Student Union at Cal State Long Beach held an “I Am Trayvon Martin” rally at Bixby Park on Sunday.

A tactical alert was issued Sunday night by the Los Angeles Police Department after protesters gathered in South Los

Angeles, and between 50 and 100 protesters made it onto the eastbound 10 Freeway at Crenshaw Boulevard and blocked traffic about 6 p.m.
